Today we started with free-write Friday! After, we presented some book talks! They’re going well so far.

Then, we finished reading chapter 1 and 2 of “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

After, we took an assessment for EOC practice that covers chapter 1 and 2!

Thursday, August 29th

Hey Everyone!

Today we started with Book Talks! We signed up for these on Tuesday and we will be presenting either Thursday, Friday, or Tuesday.

Then, we completed an anticipation guide for our next unit text, To Kill a Mockingbird. >> Anticipation Guide TKAM

Also, we answered these questions in small groups. >> Anticipation Guide Questions

To finish class, we started reading chapter 1 and 2 of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird.”

Wednesday, August 28th

Hello,

We started with our independent reading and EOC review >>wednesday-eoc-prep-1

After this, we had a brief lesson on ethos, pathos, and logos. >> Ethos Pathos Logos

We also looked at this prompt >> What is Dr. King’s most effective argument as to why his actions in Birmingham were neither unwise nor untimely. How does he support this argument? Use text evidence to support your response.

In groups, we picked one – Ethos, Pathos, or Logos – that was most dominant in King’s speech. We found 2 quotes which support our ideas. This was a writing grade.

Hello Everyone!

Today we started with our independent reading for 15 minutes.

Then, we completed an anticipation guide for our next unit text, To Kill a Mockingbird. >> Anticipation Guide TKAM

Then, we read Dr. Martin Luther King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” This is in your Springboard book on page 206.

Monday, August 26th

Hey Everyone!

Today we started with independent reading for 10 minutes and our Grammar practice.

After, for 3rd we had to finish our “Classic Crimes” >> classic crimes verdicts.

Then, we got started with “To Kill a Mockingbird” in our Springboard book. We looked at page 192 -193 which focuses on segregation. Continuing,  we looked at Jim Crow Laws – pg 195-201.

We turned in page 203 in Springboard (KWL graph) on the way out the door.

Friday, August 23rd

Hey Everyone!

Today we started with independent reading and free-write Friyay!

Those who didn’t submit their paragraphs yesterday, submitted them while others read.

We also collected notebooks for our notebook check today.

We also reviewed with our Kahoot and took our vocabulary quiz.

Then, we did a gallery walk activity to introduce us to our next text, To Kill a Mockingbird. The trials and worksheet can be found here >> classic crimes gallery walk

Monday, August 19th

Hey Everyone!

Today we started with reading independently for 10 minutes.

Then, we started class with a quick vocabulary lesson. We will be focusing on the five words: anaphora, rhetoric, juxtaposition, parallelism, and call to action. These can be found here >> vocabulary

Then, we took another short assessment to prepare for the EOC.

Then, we read the poem, “Race Politics.” This can be found in your Springboard books. We also answered the questions that went along with the stories.

We dove closer into parallelism >> Parallel Structure Notes.

We practiced with these >> Parallel Structure – Exercise 1 and Parallel Structure – Exercise 2.

Also, the ticket out the door was following: “Which version of the story was your favorite? Why? How does the tone/attitude affect your favorite? Why?”
