Today we started with journal, independent reading, and vocabulary >>MOTRD vocab practice 3.

Then, we took our Short Story test and worked on “No Red Ink.”

Our Vocab. sentences were also due today. Don’t forget about the quiz tomorrow!

Hey Everyone!

Today we started with journal, independent reading, and vocabulary >> MOTRD practice 2.

Then, for 4th period, we reviewed this PPT >>  round-or-flat (2).

Tomorrow, before the test, we will also review, but please review the following for tomorrow:

The stories >> “Masque of the Red Death,” ” Secret for Two,” “My Name,” ” The Monkey’s Paw.”

The details>> Foreshadowing, Indirect/Direct Characterization , Flashback, Simile/Metaphor, Flat/Round- Static/Dynamic (see PPT), Internal/External Conflict, Situational/Dyanmic Irony, Allusion, Personification, and Allegory.

We have a short story test tomorrow and sentences. The vocabulary quiz will be Friday. 

Monday, August 28th

Hey Everyone!

Today we started with our journal, independent reading, and vocabulary >>Masque of the Red Death Vocab. PPT

We also changed the journal prompts from 3 to 5 sentences.

Then, we finished annotating the story “The Masque of the Red Death”. After, we worked on the questions in groups  >>the-masque-of-the-red-death-reading-guide-questions with this story >>masque-of-the-red-death.

Hey Everyone!

Today we started with our journal, independent reading and vocabulary >> Monkey’s Paw Vocab. practice 4 .

After, we worked on our comparing/contrasting/analyzing of “The Monkey’s Paw” —  comparing film Monkeys paw. (on the back of this sheet).

After, we started “The Masque of the Red Death” Powerpoint before we read the story!  Here are the resources >> the-masque-of-the-red-death-ppt with masque-of-the-red-death-ppt-notes .

Remember that our vocabulary sentences are due Tomorrow and the vocabulary quiz is Friday. 

Tuesday, August 22nd

Hey Everyone!

Today we started with journal and vocabulary (the last 10 words of the PPT from last week). Our quiz will be on Friday and sentences Thursday. Here is the PowerPoint >> Monkey’s Paw Vocabulary .

We also started our independent reading! They have a form to fill out where they log their daily summer and look for sign posts. I will post this form as soon as I scan it in!

Then, we finished our Monkey’s Paw analysis.

Here is the sheet where we were film critics!  >> comparing film Monkeys paw.

The 4 interpretations are as follows:

Monday, August 21st

Hey Everyone!

Today we started with the journal.

After, we discussed an extra credit opportunity >> blame-game-monkeys-paw . This is due Friday.

Next, I gave students time to work on their “No Red Ink” as the 3 quizzes must be done by the end of the 6 weeks and we are going to have 45 minutes per week to work on it!

We will begin our vocabulary tomorrow, but just in case you wanted it now, check here >> Monkey’s Paw Vocabulary . The sentences will be due on Thursday and the quiz will still be on Friday!

Friday, August 18th

Hey Everyone!

Today we started with journal and our vocabulary quiz.

Then, we worked on “No Red Ink” with this assignment sheet >> 10th Literature Progress Chart #1 NRI . We are working towards the quizzes, but we must get level 4 on the the practices.

After, we finished “The Monkey’s Paw” movie with analysis sheet >> comparing film Monkeys paw. Click HERE for the movie. I bought it on Itunes so we could have subtitles!!

On Monday, we are beginning the second half of “The Monkey’s Paw” vocabulary. If you would like to preview/practice it, look at the second half of this Powerpoint >>  Monkey’s Paw Vocabulary . 

We will also begin independent reading on Monday! We all picked out books yesterday.
